Summer Reading Program 2008
Make reading a part of your child's life!



[Family Entertainment] [Storytimes] [Crafts] [Movies] [Picnic] [Battle of the Books]

REGISTRATION begins on
MONDAY, JUNE 9
and will continue through June 30th.  Begin to record your reading time as soon as you register. 
Be fair - DO NOT count any reading done before you are registered.  No matter what group you are in, participate in activities as much or as little as you wish.  There is something for everyone!

ACTIVITIES begin on MONDAY, JUNE 16
Bring your reading folder with you when you come to the library, to have it checked & stamped. 
Earn small prizes as you read and become eligible for larger prizes at the end of the program. 

The last day to turn in folders and collect prizes is FRIDAY, JULY 25.

(A limited number of summer reading t-shirts and canvas book bags will be for sale on a first-come basis beginning June 9th.)

Thursday, July 10th @ 6:30pm The Hilarious "Critterrrr Man"
Thursday, July 17th @ 6:30pm Dennis DeBont Magic Show
Thursday, July 24th @ 6:30pm Bubble Wonders Show
Saturday, August 2nd @ 11:00am Brown bag PICNIC with musician Randy Peterson. A reading celebration for the entire family. Bring sack lunches - soft drinks & water will be provided. Grand prize winners will be announced at the picnic!
In case of rain, please eat at home and join us inside the library for the concert. If the weather is questionable (or if the ground is really soggy) you may call the library after 10am to find out if we'll be inside or out.

 

STORYTIMES!
Choose: Tuesdays OR Wednesdays  @ 10am
Pick up a complete schedule at the library
Aimed at younger children, but everyone is welcome (approx. 30 minutes).  Stories, fingerplays, songs & more!
Stay afterwards to make something! Count each storytime as 30 minutes on your reading folder!

 

BUILD-A-BUG WORKSHOP
Help us Decorate the Library for our Summer of Bugs!

Friday June 13th
10:00 am - 12 noon

Grades 3rd - 8th
Room for only 30 Kids - Register between 6/9 and 6/13.

The Bugs will be used to Bug out our Library. We will take your picture with your bug and email it to you. Then you can pick up your bug after the Summer Picnic.

Battle of the Books

Books that "Morph" You!

Our 4th annual B.O.B Tournament!
For students who will be in grades 5-12 next fall.  Compete with a team of friends at the West Bend Library! Attend the B.O.B Kickoff for signup, team formation, details, and the booklist!

CRAFTS
 

"READERS" CRAFTS
No Registration, but space is limited - 1st Come 1st Served.
Be here by 1:00 to participate - Stay until you're finished.
 
"YOUNG ADULT" CRAFTS
You MUST Register ahead of time for each weekly craft
(email, call or signup at the Info Desk)
Be here by 1:00 to participate - Stay until you're finished.
Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm for those
entering grades 1-5 next fall ONLY - NO preschoolers. 


Reader Craft Days: June 18 & 25 and
July 2, 9, 16 & 23.
Tuesdays from 1-3pm exclusively for those
entering grades 6-12 next fall. 


YA Craft Days: June 17 & 24 and
July 1, 8, 15 & 22.

 

 Monday Movie Matinees at 2pm
(Movies are open to anyone who is registered in the Summer Reading Program, it is the parent's responsibility to determine if a movie is not appropriate. Not recommended for preschoolers)
 
June 30th Bee Movie - Barry B. Benson, a bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry's life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey, and subsequently decides to sue us. Rated PG
July 14th A Bug's Life - Flik (the resident misfit ant) sets out on a journey to find "bigger bugs" to save his colony from the evil grasshoppers. Yet he mistakenly ends up getting a group of circus bugs for the job... and the adventure begins... Rated G

 

Family Scavenger Hunt

  • Pick up the List of Items to Find between 6/9/08 and 6/20/08.

  • Submit a SHOEBOX with the found items between 6/23/08 and 6/27/08.

  • The TEN FAMILIES who find the most items will win a prize.

  • Winners will be notified by 7/7/08

  • It is Possible that Not all the Items will be found.

  • You WILL NOT get the items back.

  • HAVE FUN!!!


 

CONTESTS & DRAWINGS!
Visit the library each week to enter the "Reader of the Week" drawings and to enter our weekly guessing contest.  Not to mention the weekly scavenger hunts.  There will be a lot of chances to win some great prizes.  Watch for details throughout the summer.  Don't miss any of the FREE library fun!
 
PUZZLES, MAZES, QUIZZES, & COLORING PAGES!
Different each week, just for fun! Some easy, some hard. 
 

 

PICNIC GRAND FINALE
